Why Buy Handmade Soap?

Your skin is the largest organ of your body and definitely worthy of caring for. Industrial manufactured "soap" contains harsh chemicals and synthetic detergents that commonly irritate skin. These chemicals actually strip your skin of natural oils, causing redness and dry patches. The store bought "stuff", in most cases, is not real soap.  The next time you go to the store, take a look down the “soap aisle” and look at the labels.  It won’t say “soap” because it’s not soap.  You’ll see things like “cleansing bar,” “deodorant bar,” “antibacterial bar,” “beauty bar,” etc.  After all, they can’t call it soap if it’s not soap.

Handmade soap is made with natural oils and butters combined with sodium hydroxide (lye) which creates a chemical reaction called saponification. In this process, glycerin is naturally produced and none of the lye is actually left in the finished product.

An ingredient label of a common brand name store bought "soap":
Sodium Lauroyl Isethionate, Stearic Acid, Sodium Tallowate, Sodium Palmitate, Lauric Acid, Sodium Isethionate, Water, Sodium Stearate, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Sodium Cocoate, Sodium Palm Kernelate (Palm Kernel Oil), Sodium Chloride, Tetrasodium EDTA, Tetrasodium Etidronate, Maltol, Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891)

An ingredient label of our handmade soap:
Palm Oil, Coconut Oil, Olive Oil, Sweet Almond Oil, Sunflower Oil, Castor Oil, Shea Butter, Sodium Hydroxide, Fragrance, Oxide Pigment (natural colorant).

So why buy handmade soap?  Because it’s better, it’s moisturizing, it’s natural, and you can get lots of fragrances or none at all.  I have found that most people that have skin sensitivities are typically fine using handmade soap, because it does not have detergents. Not to mention, it's beautiful and you're supporting a small business.
